UAC's rating:
By Gary Paulsen
This is a book about a sole survivor of a plane crash in the middle of nowhere, named Brian. Brian has no idea where he is, or what to do next. But he knows one thing: He must survive. Taking it one small step at a time, Brian learns the secrets that are mostly known to only animals and plants. He must learn skills he has never needed before, if he wants to keep this up. Will Brian be able to survive long enough for a plane to come? Or are his hopes in vain and he is stranded and alone... forever?
I like this book because it blends human, plant, and animal together. It is also amazing how suspenseful it is, how resourceful Brian becomes, and how Gary Paulsen manages to keep it interesting with almost no dialogue. If you like Swiss Family Robinson, you will like this book, too. Hatchet definitely deserves four stars. Review by: UAC
