This book is about a girl who lives in Poland. Her name is Esther. Esther is a Jew and for some reason, lots of people don't like Jews! Esther's dad has been in Cuba for years to get enough money to bring the rest of the family across the ocean. Now after all that time he has only enough money to bring one person! Esther sends a letter to her dad to ask him to please bring her across because she is the oldest after all. Esther's dad was actually thinking of bringing one of her younger brothers! If Esther gets picked what will happen next? What if she misses home too much? Read this book to find out.
