This is the first book in the Penderwicks series (see Series Reviews). It is about four girls (Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty) who take a vacation to Arundel, a seemingly magical place. There, they meet Jefferey, the son of the mean Mrs. Tifton, who is the owner of the place. After befriending Jefferey, these girls have all sorts of adventures with their new friend and their dog, Hound.
